What is the physical environment of a classroom?
How is it achieved?
What is the best way to 'set' up a classroom physically?
Is there a right and wrong way to set a classroom up?
Suggested Ideas to look at:
Table positions
Stimulus (posters, artwork, books etc)
Work centres (art, science, sose, reading etc)
Quiet area
Wet area
Teacher area / desk
Carpet space
Reading space These are some questions Im going to address in the teachers page as well as the ones above: How does it link to SEL?
What HOM can be targeted and how? Some ideas I've had so far:
Have some desk lay out options and justify how each one may be used
Have an area of the room where students bring in something of theirs that means something to them and put these things around the room
Maybe having a class pet like a guinea pig
Having a variety of stations that may be set up in the room for example reading corner
Let me know if you guys thing of anything that would suit physical environement
Justine :)
This is something ive done so far for classroom layout.
Classroom Lay Out
Clusters of desks
If you want students in your classroom to collaborate in small groups organise desks in to small clusters.
U-Shaped desks
If you want students to frequently have whole class discussions organise desks into a u-shape.
Traditional Rows
Setting desks up in rows facing the board is an effective strategy if you intend to teach from the front of the classroom. Student don’t need to strain their necks and the learning manager can easily make eye contact with each student.
Not sure why the images didn't come out? Should i also add justifications and references here?
